Teaching Staff

All of the teacher’s at Bethany Bear’s Preschool have had children of their own at Bethany Bear’s and have a love for Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Each of them has a degree in early childhood education or a related field, and each has been teaching here, at Bethany Bear's, for between five and 30 years.

Cheryl Stratton

Cheryl Stratton has a Bachelor of Arts from Washington State University in Administrative Recreation with an emphasis in Physical Therapy in the College of Education.  Cheryl’s taught for 31 years at Bethany Bear’s Preschool.  For the past 24 years she has also served as director for the preschool.   This year she will be a full time director. Previous to joining Bethany, she ran a preschool on Queen Anne Hill for the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department, and directed a Camp Fire Camp in Richmond Washington.  Cheryl helped her husband co-direct the Children’s Ministry at Calvary Fellowship in Seattle for 3 years.  She also co-wrote, directed and produced children’s musicals for 10 years.

Janet Kopicky

Janet Kopicky was born and raised in Seattle and taught kindergarten Sunday school class all through high school.  She attended the University of Washington and received her B.A. in Speech Communication and Elementary Education.  She taught at the elementary level for seven years.  Her time was spent developing an enrichment program for highly capable kindergarten and first graders.  She taught in kindergarten and first grade classrooms and spent two years teaching in a resource room for learning disabled 1st -6th graders.  This is her 25th year at Bethany Bear’s Preschool where she teaches the  MWF 3 day/ 4 hr 4 -5 year old class.

Candace Robbins

Candace Robbins started at Bethany Bear’s Preschool in 1990 as an Administrative Assistant. In 1994, Candace also hired on as a teacher.  This will be Candace’s 24th year teaching. She teaches a Mon-Wed-Fri. morning class for 3 year olds and Tu-Thurs. for 2 1/2 to 3 year olds.  Candace’s background is in art and she has had extensive experience working with children as a tutor in public schools, and as the Children’s Ministry Director at Bethany Community Church. She has also taught art with Neo Art School, Sage School of Fine Art and has taught independent art classes.  She studied at Burnley School of Art and The University of Washington.

Karen Simone

Karen Simone grew up in Rhode Island and graduated from Boston College with degrees in Elementary and Special Education.  After teaching for a year in Rhode Island, she moved to Geneva, Switzerland with her husband and taught 3rd grade for 3 years at the International School of Geneva.  With her husbands job change, she then moved to Redondo Beach, CA and taught Elementary Special Ed for 2 years, and received her Master’s Degree in Special Education.  They finally made it to Seattle in 1994 and began teaching at Shorewood High School, in the Learning Disabilities Program.  This is Karen’s 12th year teaching at Bethany Bear's Preschool. She teaches the 5 day 4 hour  Pre-K class.

Stephanie Judy

Stephanie Judy grew up in the Greenlake neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. She studied at the University of Washington and received a Bachelor of Arts with honors in English. She also was certified in Elementary Education K-8 and English 4-12 grade. Stephanie taught at St. John Elementary in Seattle from 1994 to 1998. In 2000, Stephanie started her role as Mom first to William and later to Kate. Stephanie worked as a substitute teacher at Bethany Bear’s Preschool and Assumption St. Bridget. This is Stephanie's 4th year at Bethany Bear’s Preschool. She teaches the Tu, Thur, Fri. 3 hour class.
